Influence of mass transport on the competition between corrosion of aluminium alloy surface and the release of primer containing inhibitors : validat…
2014
The conventional aircraft paint scheme for corrosion protection of aluminum structures is partly based on application of a primer containing inhibitors. In such coatings, release of the inhibiting species enables fast healing of a bare metal surface after a mechanical damage of the protective layers. Nevertheless, considering possible depletion of inhibitors by uncontrolled leaching, it appears important to estimate the corrosion risk integrating “corrosion” sensors in the structure. The objective of this work was to understand the operating mode of a sensor simulating a damaged paint coating whose concept is based on the competition between the triggering of localized corrosion and the pas…
A dinucleating ligand which promotes DNA cleavage with one and without a transition metal ion.
2013
The dinucleating ligand L (1,3-bis[bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino]propan-2-ol) combined with metal ions efficiently cleaves DNA when M : L is 1 : 1 (M = Co(II) or Fe(III)) at pH 5.5–7.0, with free L being more active at acidic pH than when bound to Zn(II), Cu(II) or Ni(II) at neutral pH.
Effect of orthodontic treatment on saliva, plaque and the levels of Streptococcus mutans and Lactobacillus
2009
Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify changes in the oral environment with clinical, salivary and bacterial risk markers after placement of fixed orthodontic appliances on permanent dentition. Material and Methods: With ethical approval, we used different techniques to analyzed clinical, salivary and bacterial risk markers in 34 patients (mean age, 16.7 ± 5.2 years), 14 males and 20 females; before starting orthodontic treatment and 1 month after. Clinical risk markers (decayed, missing, and filled surfaces [DMFS], O?Leary´s plaque index, and plaque pH); salivary markers (unstimulated and stimulated saliva flow rate, buffer capacity, pH, and occult blood in saliva) and bacterial…
Pneumonia hospitalizations of children aged <2 years in Poland before (2013-2016) and after (2017-2018) universal mass vaccination with 10-valent pne…
2022
As infection with Streptococcus pneumoniae is an important cause of pneumonia in children, the World Health Organization recommends childhood pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs). In January 2017, PCV universal mass vaccination (UMV) was introduced in Poland for children aged <2 years. The objective of this study was to estimate and describe the trends in the incidences of various types of pneumonia hospitalizations in Poland before (2013–2016) and after (2017–2018) introduction of the UMV program. The study was conducted at the regional hospitals of Opole and Bialystok and included all hospitalized children aged <2 years with a primary or secondary diagnosis of pneumonia in their electro…
Luminescence Efficiency of Si/SiO 2 Nanoparticles Produced by Laser Ablation
2019
Photoluminescence properties of Si(core)/SiO 2 (shell) nanoparticles produced by pulsed laser ablation in aqueous solution are investigated with the purpose to highlight the microscopic processes that govern the emission brightness and stability. Time resolved spectra evidence that these systems emit a µs decaying band centered around 1.95 eV, that is associated with the radiative recombination of quantum-confined excitons generated in the Si nanocrystalline core. Both the quantum efficiency and the stability of this emission are strongly dependent on the pH level of the solution, that is changed after the laser ablation is performed. They enhance in acid environment because of the H + pass…
IMPROVING THE COMPETITIVENESS OF ITALIAN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES THROUGH INTERNATIONAL Ph.D. PROGRAMMES: A DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT APPROACH
In particolare l’attenzione viene focalizzata…
Voltammetric Investigation on Uranyl Sorption by Alginate Based Material. Influence of Hydrolysis and pH Dependence
2015
The removal of U(VI) as uranyl (UO22+) from aqueous solutions was investigated by sorption onto alginate based material. The hydrolysis of uranyl ion was always taken into account in the calculations of free (22UO) ion in aqueous solution, in the experimental pH range considered, as well as the acid-base properties of alginate polymer. The sorption process follows a pseudo-second order kinetic model and the sorption rate decreases when the pH value increases. In addition to the classical Langmuir and Freundlich models, the equilibrium data were fitted by using a modified multi-component equilibrium model, never tested before. Differential Pulse Voltammetry (DPV) and Inductively Coupled Plas…
Il gravis morbus degli scholastici. Esempi tratti dalla storia (e dall’arte) nell’opera di Seneca il Vecchio
2021
Within a broader reflection on the presence of history in declamatory literature, the paper deals with some of Seneca’s controversies in which the thema concerns undisputed protagonists of ancient art, observing the way in which declaimers converge within the fields of interest of the school fundamental reflections on issues related to art and the role of the artist.
Diuron mobility through vineyard soils contaminated with copper
2005
International audience; The herbicide diuron is frequently applied to vineyard soils in Burgundy, along with repeated treatments with Bordeaux mixture (a blend of copper sulfate and calcium hydroxide) that result in elevated copper concentrations. Cu could in principle affect the fate and transport of diuron or its metabolites in the soil either directly by complexation or indirectly by altering the populations or activity of microbes involved in their degradation. To assess the effect of high Cu concentrations on diuron transport, an experiment was designed with ten undisturbed columns of calcareous and acidic soils contaminated with 17–509 mg kg−1 total Cu (field-applied). Grass was plant…
